Wrestling Team

The program of wrestling at Galesburg – Augusta has a long tradition of accomplishments. This all started when a trained boxer named Al Cox saw the sport and introduced it here at the high school level. Since that day there have been many championships, individual state level champions, and numerous tournament accomplishments that have made wrestling at Galesburg – Augusta very proud. One of the time tested advantages that as attributed to this has been a coaching staff dedicated to educating life lessons through the sport.
The program has grown a bit since Al brought it together. Coach Jim Sullivan became the face of the sport and brought the program up to many records and awards to stand on. The principals he taught and the integrity that he established are still present today.
Continuing to grow the sport in this community, Coach Chris Mobley volunteered at the high school for a few years and saw where we needed youth involvement. Chris setup and runs the youth MYWAY (Michigan Youth Wrestling Association) program. This program starts with our young students around 6yr to 7yrs of age and continues up through middle school years.
At the middle school level you will find Coach Tim Herdegen. Tim is a teacher in the Climax school system and joined us last year for his first year coaching with us. Tim comes to us with experience from coaching Battle Creek Central.
Coach Marsh: Started with Galesburg – Augusta volunteering in 1995 under the leadership of Coach Jim Sullivan. He continued from there to accept the assistant coach and then eventually head coaching position in 2002. In 2003 Coach Marsh became PACE certified for coaching. A program aimed at education in today’s coaching techniques for all sports. This will mark the 5th year that Coach Marsh and his staff have led the wrestling team.
Coach Lynn: Is a graduate of Galesburg – Augusta and was on the first reinstatement team in 1988. Coach Lynn was volunteering at the high school level and then accepted the head coach position for the middle school. He went on to become USA Copper certified and PACE certified in coaching and came aboard as high school assistant in 2002 with Coach Marsh.
