The littlest rams spend their days full of dance, song, stories and many learning opportunities in the Galesburg-Augusta Preschool Program.  It’s time to learn to share and begin to stretch the body and the mind all the while making new friends and furthering their journey to knowledge and productivity.

Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools are on the forefront of early childhood education. The G-A Pre-K Program provides a warm, nurturing environment where children can grow socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Activities are chosen to give students the satisfaction and self-confidence that come from personal accomplishment—whether it is zipping a coat or learning to use sign language. Teacher dedication and commitment are the heart of the program, giving every child individualized attention, encouragement, and support.

The preschool program has grown to three classrooms in an attempt to better serve the community. Ms. Kline/Mrs. T and Mrs. Meyers/Mrs. Gerth make up the teaching teams for the four year old programs. The three-year-old classroom is taught by Ms. Church and Mrs. Smith. The preschool staff understands how important it is to work with parents to build a solid foundation for continued school success.

The preschool program provides unique experiences for its student in a safe, caring and stimulating environment. From in-class activities to field trips and special visitors the program strives to develop social, physical, cognitive and language skills.

In celebration of the fall season, the preschool program takes a trip to Gull Meadow Farms. The preschool students, and their parents, are treated to a wagon ride, apple picking, fresh cider and donuts. These types of activities are a great way for the children to create memories and background knowledge for future lessons. Parents are also able to interact with each other and begin to build relationships that often last many years while their children move forward in their education.

Galesburg Firefighter and Pride Life Paramedics are special visitors in the four year old classrooms. These guests are asked to share the importance of their jobs and the service they provide to the community.  Introducing preschoolers to people who wear uniforms, which may frighten them, is a way to help the children learn there are real people under those uniforms who will help them.  After the presentation, students are given the opportunity to share their thoughts and questions with the visitors. A close up look at the vehicle and a chance to climb inside was the perfect ending to an exciting adventure.

The Galesburg-Augusta Preschool Program has openings in both their morning and afternoon sessions. The four-year-old program is run Monday through Thursday in either the a.m. session (7:50-10:50) or the p.m. session (11:45-2:45). Space is also available in the Tuesday and Thursday morning session (7:50-10:50) three-year-old program.
